    The good first - friendly staff, an excellent location close to where I was working and a delicious breakfast in the basement restaurant. However, due to a computer glitch it seems, my room had been double-booked and instead I was downgraded to a very basic single. It was right up on the top floor, tiny and frankly rather seedy. The only nice thing about it was a tray with a cafetiere, fresh coffee and fruit. On a hot night - not their fault, admittedly - it was really quite unbearable and I slept very badly between two very long working days. No explanation was given as to why I'd been chosen to be downgraded and although I was given a reduction in the cost of my room that was less important, as it would be covered by expenses. What I really wanted was the room I'd booked, which for no reason I could understand seemed to have been given to someone else. Poor management?

    Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Clifton - the staff were clearly busy, but all friendly and helpful. My room was good value and clean - I loved the fresh coffee and tea! The restaurant in the basement is also great - I sat there all evening watching Wimbledon and enjoyed a very tasty meal. Will recommend and return.
