The Torch Lights Up Bristol

This month in Bristol Clifton Hotels are very excited as Bristol city center will be proud to host the Olympic Flame as it enter the city on the fourth day of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay!

Leaving Lands End in Cornwall on Saturday May 19^th, the Olympic Flame will make its epic 70-day journey around the UK and hit Bristol on Tuesday 22^nd!

Tuesday 22nd May

The torch will arrive in Bristol on Tuesday 22nd May, arriving from Bath into Longwell Green at 17:25. From here it will travel via Hanham, St George, Lawrence Hill, Old Market, Castle Park and Welsh Back, before arriving into the Harbourside on the Aiming High Power Boat at 7pm to begin the evening celebrations. Fans of funk and soul music and everyone who enjoys the cutting-edge, alternative dance music scene will be flocking to Bristol’s Millennium Square at 8.00pm.

Wednesday 23rd May

Bright and early on Wednesday 23rd May, just before 6am, the torch will begin its journey once more - starting at the Council house and College Green, before passing through Millenium Square and through Hotwells. From here it will travel out of the city to Flax Bourton, Backwell Farleigh, Backwell West Town, Nailsea, Failand and Leigh Woods, before crossing over the beautiful Clifton Suspension Bridge and travelling into Clifton, along the Downs and up towards Southmead and then Filton.

For this occasion our fantastic venue – No.4 Restaurant – will be providing some hearty breakfasts for those Bristol goers watching the flame travel over the Clifton Suspension Bridge!

That's right folks the SS Great Britain is to be Turned to Jelly!

Clifton Hotels are happy to announce that the SS Great Britain won the public vote for controversial 'Get your Wobble On' competition hosted in March and are ecstatic that the Brits favourite desert will be used to mould one of Bristol most notable sites!

Artists Bompas and Parr aka 'The Jelly Mongers' hope to flood the glass plate surrounding the SS Great Britain with lime green and fragranced jelly on May 18, coinciding with the Museums at Night event. Definitely a spectacle to come and see!

As one of 10 museums to be matched with nationally acclaimed artists across the UK for this annual event, the SS Great Britain staff are delighted to welcome visitors to 'Get their Wobble on!'

It will be the first time the ss Great Britain has inspired art made with jelly – traditionally the ship has featured in oil and watercolour paintings and photography - so as you can imagine tickets will go fast!

Descend below the glass ‘sea’; step back in time in the Dockyard Museum; and explore the ss Great Britain at night.

This summer, HowTheLightGetsIn the world’s largest philosophy festival returns to Hay for ten thrilling days of innovative debate, live music and late-night parties.

Bristol Folk Festival Back to Bristol!

Bristol Folk Festival returned to the city last year after an incredible 32 years absence and it's back again this year to entertain city dwellers and visitors!

The much anticipated 2nd festival will be buzzing in Bristol over the early May Bank Holiday (May 5-7) as a guaranteed “rain free” event as it returns to the revamped Colston Hall!

Artists already announced include Scotland’s Karine Polwart and Rua Macmillan Trio along with Cornwall’s effervescent 3 Daft Monkeys and BBC Radio 2 Folk award nominees Lady Maisery, Walsh and Pound , Blair Dunlop and Lucy Ward and Americana/pop outfit ahab.

Visitors can sample some of the “disgusting” delicacies engulfed by first-class passengers in the 1850s, 60s and 70s, and learn more about the similarities and differences between Victorian food and the things we eat today.

The food-tasting sessions will take place in the First-Class Dining Saloon on February 14, 16 and 18 at 12 noon and 2:30pm, and are included in admission prices.
