Bristol’s very own Banksy has been nominated for an Oscar in the best documentary category for Exit Through the Giftshop.
The elusive graffiti artist’s film tells the tale of Mr Brainwash, a street artist living in Los Angeles, seen through the eyes of Banksy, and charts the evolution of the art scene. In response to the media hype surrounding the infamous award ceremony, the artist, who speaks with voice modulation and is filmed in shadows so as to protect his identity, says:
“I don't agree with the concept of award ceremonies, but I'm prepared to make an exception for the ones I'm nominated for. The last time there was a naked man covered in gold paint in my house, it was me."
Let’s hope he can do Bristol proud and bring that gold naked man back across the pond and home to the South West!
